No mention of a requirement of Scottish ancestry.
And of course, some Scottish societies are "insular" -- notice I said they are "usually" friendly?

Let's start by spelling it properly than, eh? Scotsman.
Not hanging with young party people? Have you not met alot of the guys on this site? I would think the average age of this site sits at about 35-40 tops. Being below that average (snicker, snicker ) I would say we are a bunch of young party guys!!

Aye, I am of German origin, but if you study history you know that there was a lot of German influence in the British Isles in the early times. We get the notion that folks stayed put in the place where they were born. Often true enough, but there were many exceptions.
Most cultures have some sort of bagpipe...mentioned since it has close association to the Scottish. And most cultures wore a "skirt-type" garment often a robe type garment. Mainly because of the advent of pants followed out of need for warmth, protection from bushes etc.
I wear the Ross kilt because of my in-laws (God be good to them) and in honor of the wonderful daughter they produced that shares my life and has now for 41+ years.

Sharp looking avatar Gary,
Me too. My mother's line has a branch of English Loyalists that retreated to Canada after the Revolutionary War and married up with Paladian Germans who I believe were in the English ranks and decided to stay over on this side of the pond when the fighting was over.
Didn't the English and the Germans exchange royalty?
I know, drifting waaaaay off this silly little topic....but curious.

Sounds like that island is a lot smaller. While a vast group own and wear kilts formally, a small percentage of that number wear them all the time. I've run into many people who own kilts, but only one who actually was wearing it ( outside the Scottish Club of Tulsa meeting on saturday).

It amazes me how much you guys know about your family histories, I know nothing about my family past one of my Grandfather's parents!
Kudos to you for finding out so much. I need to have a good chat with Grandad sometime soon.
