W00!!
Just got my package before I had to leave for class/work. I had a few minutes, so I popped the box open. Initial impressions are very positive. The kilt IS a beast. The wool has an interesting texture to it, just as expected. The workmanship seems to be just fine on this thing. The basting stitches are still in, as I have only strapped it on quickly. It might be a tad long, but not horrible. I had to buy a 25" long, since there were no 24" left, I am ok with this. If I could claim one beef with the kilt, it's the buckles/straps. Many other folks have said as much before, so I wasn't surprised. The buckles appear to be stitched onto a patch of cordura/nylon and that should be a durable mount. The buckle tongues are a little short, but not unmanageable. The leather is a little stiff, but could easily get worn in. Worst case scenario: Pay a kiltmaker to replace them with more contemporary styled units. It would be a relatively easy job to do, and not be hard on the wallet. I'll see how the ones on it wear though. This little aspect is definitely not a deal breaker for me. I anticipated it, and took it into account.
I haven't bothered to count the pleats, but there are a lot of them. I bought the largest size (50 in wasit, which I can fit into, but I also plan to lose some weight, so when that happens, it'll be even more comfy. If I lost enough, I would pay to get this thing altered). The tartan is also a little different in colour. The green has a slight bluish tinge to it, but it looks really nice that way. The green band on the top doesn't bother me, and the hanging loops are very convenient.
I also picked up a pair of the khaki full hose. Thw website said 100% wool. They don't itch, and feel great. I bought the large size. I wear a size 13 or 14 US, and these fit fine, and since they aren't as stretchy as my acrylic hose, also don't try to fall down (I have yet to buy flashes... I know, I know...). If they can find my huge feet, they are likely to fit most other people's as well/ Great neutral colour, similar to what I have seen called "oatmeal", perhaps just a little darker, but I like them. At $16 for all wool, vs. the nearly $30 I paid for the acrylic hose that I have (I bought them at the games, and I didn't know the price until I brought them up to the counter, which at that point I wasn't going to argue price), they were a steal. I plan to buy more in the future.
If I can snap some quick pics later tonight, I will. Can't gurantee anything though, I have been trying to get the chance to snap photos for a while (and I don't photograph so well).
