I have fairly thick beard growth and apparently I have sensitive skin (at least on my neck.) I've tried a lot of different products over the years but the best combination I have found so far is Edge active care utra sensitive shave gel, Gillette Sensor 3 sensitive disposables, and Nivea sensitive after shave balm. These seem to strike a good balance of low price, lack of skin irritation, and length of use. Of course, I still have to shave with the grain and it really helps if I can shave every other day (usually can't do to work.)

A Gillette triple blade throwaway works for me, I also use Nivea Shaving Gel followed by Nivea After Shaving Balm. Nivea makes great shaving stuff for men.

I soak my beard in a warm water splash first to soften it, and then I use my wife's homemade soap in a mug and a badger brush. Been doing that for years and I love it. I can't stand that cold stuff in a can.
I use a throw away track-2 and that's ok, but I would like to try the old fashioned straight razor some day.

I've had a beard for 12 years now, but I keep it trimmed pretty short with hair clippers. I just use the 1/4" trimmer for the beard and what's left on the rest of my head. For the edges I use an electric razor, but not every day.

When I was shaving regularly, I never did find anything that I liked. I found that I needed to wait about three days between shaves to let my skin recover, but by the second day it was looking a bit scruffy, especially in my Army days.

Gillette Mach III and Edge for sensitive skin. If you have a lot of irritation you might try this: First use lots of hot water on the beard. If you have the time soak a washcloth or small hand towel in water as hot as you can stand it and put it on your face/neck for a few minutes. Next, instead of shaving cream/gel use a hair conditioner. Brand doesn't matter, get unscented if you are sensitive to perfumes. Spread it on the beard and let it stand for a few minutes before shaving. I recommend the Mach III razor, but thats just my pref. Shave first with the grain, then across the grain. Never against. Wash face with hot water. Use your favorite lotion. Go back to bed.

I shave my face and head everyday and have done so for about 14 years now. I use any shave gel that's on sale (or just plain soap when I run out of shave gel) and the Schick Extreme 3 disposable razor....I don't know, it seem to work for me.

I use a mach 3 razor. Brush and sandlewood shaving soap from crabtree and evelin. The soap costs about $7 Canadian but lasts one and a half years

On a slight tangent, if you want to soften your beard, use the same shampoo on your beard that you do on the rest of your hair. I do it all at once in the shower. It seems to work, especially if the shampoo has some conditioner in it, or you could use a separate conditioner.

I've had several ladies tell me how much softer my beard is than other fellows', and they like to touch it.
