I like wizards and dragons, but neither sounded right and I wanted it to be different. I searched around and found sorcerers which sounded neat and more intriguing than wizard dale.
Oh, and when the internet became more than just a few bulletin boards and there were more dot com sites, I started putting a period or dot after my name, and again to be different, I capitalized all the letters.
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

Oddly, I had usually read it as "SoccerDale," and only recently realized my mistake. Sorry, and thanks for the explanation.

Actually also came from the movie 'Kids'. There was a character with the same name that was always drinking a 40oz of Old English. At the time, I did too.
Hopefully that's the ONLY thing you had in common with that character!

I call myself Pikeman because my given first name is derived from a name which means spear (pike) carrier.

Pikeman - so are you Gary, Jerry, or Gerald?
"Wompet@xxx.xxx" was my first e-mail address, a combination of wombat (a goofy word naming a goofy little marsupial, which I like the sound of) and "Muppet" (my family nickname).
There was also the semi-(wholly?) mythical figure Prester John, as well.
And let's at least make it a challenge - Klingon Bird of Prey vs. Millenium Falcon, or the Slave I.

I gotta go for the Millenium Falcon, you know it's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

Slave 1, which keep most of its (quite formidable) weapons hidden.
(I'll try to edit after I locate my comparative weapon lists. Actually, THAT needs to be it's OWN thread in Off Topic)
Great thread! Very interesting learning what all these names mean.
Wompet, my neighbors have a LARGE furry dog named "Womba" (after the character in Ivanhoe).
Their dog looks EXACTLY like your avatar.

I don't believe mine requires any explaining.... but it really has been fun reading about everyone else.
