I voted no, but after seeing all the NO! votes,
I'd wear it just to piss off the kilt police.

    McGurk,
I know belted plaids weren't nearly as uniform as kilts today. But I've never seen an old depiction of a belted plaid that long.

    Robinhood,
You wouldn't piss me off by wearing it. I'm definitely not a member of the kilt police. But I do think that what's shown there is more of a skirt than a kilt.

And now (off topic) to Zardoz,
Why are you named after a movie I did not enjoy??? even if it did have sean connery in it...

    I wouldn't wear it
but if you or anyone want to wear one I'm not good to say anything
    Just don't call it a kilt,because it isn't

Maybe it has been mentioned in another thread, but since I posted this this morning, I've been wondering how the length of the kilt got set at "Knee length. More than an inch either way and it isn't a kilt." Hopefully Matt Newsome, Todd, or someone who knows a lot more about the the history of the garment can shed some light on why there is such a tight constraint on the length of the garment. I mean, as McGurk mentioned, a belted plaid could have (whether it was done historically or not) been worn at almost any length. So why precisely knee length? Why not ankle length? Why not mid-calf? (I can answer why not mid-thigh myself!)

Indeed. If I were into the London, New York or Paris club scene I'd wear it but I'm not so..... I can, however, see Prince Harry in it.

Probably from the Victorians. They had rules for everything.

The belted plaid was worn above the knee and the top part of it could droped off the shoulders and worn like a long skirt on a cold day and then pulled up over the shoulder as the day warmed up.

I think that my main problem with it is the name of the company,21st century kilts.
I am an 18th century guy born into the 20th century and have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Give me a traditional kilt (great kilt or wee kilt) my flintlock and a good knife and I'm happy.
anything else looks like something from a Buck Rogers movie
