Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo ! Three of my favorite biblical characters. My wife didn't go for that either. So my sons are Benjamin Patrick and Daniel Allen.

I think asking opinions is fine, but you should do what your hearts tell you and your wife, IMO.

Children are a great gift indeed.

As a member of the semi-unique name club, I'd like to offer this advice... if you give your kid an unusual name, give them a bog-standard middle name, so that they can choose for themselves who they want to be when they get older.

I think that Mike, David, Nelson, Hank, Colin, Todd, Dee , Bradley, Glen, or perhaps Jamie would be among your best choices.

    Cheers

    Suck up. Ha.

    Yes, I like Michael

My brother is Calum and sister is Seona. I like those names, too.

And we all have Greig as middle names, apparently since 1745, when it couldn't be a last name.

I'm not really sure why, but I always liked the name James.

But really - I think the best names are those that are in common use will cause less problems for the child. Also the names that have established nick names are good.

The current trend to just mix a bunch of letters together is strange to me.

    Good wholesome names like:

    Robert, Bob
    John, Jack
    James, Jim
    Francis, Frank
    Howard, Hank
    Geoffrey, Jeff
    Peter, Pete
    Gregory, Greg
    William, Bill
    Albert, Al
    Bradford, Brad
    Charles, Chuck
    Daniel, Dan
    Edward, Ed
    Zackeria, Zack
    Zebulan, Zeb
    Izekiel, Zeke

And the list can go on and on……

Now that would just be sucking up, unless of course David was the name chosen.

    Can't go wrong either way.
Again, that makes David a great choice.

Also, the trend to use a fairly common name, but give it an unusual spelling. I know the parents think it's clever, but all it does is cause problems for the kids in school when everyone spells their name wrong by using the common spelling.

It would help to know your last name, because I think the way both names sound together is important. At least, you don't want two names that sound weird together. That said, I really like Alasdair, Duncan and Lachlan. Also, my firstborn's name is Iain, which of course I like.
For the record, I'm glad my parents didn't name me Jegudiel.

Make sure to check what the initals spell, and if it rhymes with anything unfortunate. Or if it spells out any cuss words halfway through (I learned to spell my sister's name by remembering that there was h e double hockey sticks in it)

I've always been partial to the name Kresent.
