Hi Bellfree...just curious, have you met your mayor, Jim Proctor? He is a proud kiltie!

Welcome to the Rabble, from just down the road, in Charlotte.
If you have any questions about the local Highland events, drop me a note, I participate in most (including Grandfather, where I have been camping for years now).

Wow, thanks for all the replies! From the hour or so I spent lurking before joining up I got the impression that you're a friendly lot, and I was certainly right
For those who asked, I'm just on the outskirts of Winston-Salem - a place I hadn't even heard of before coming over here. It's been a huge culture shock - I lived in both Manhattan and Malibu for a short while and thought back then that I had seen the USA, lol. The people here are generally very friendly, but it's a totally different way of life than I was used to back in the 'Pool where it was no big deal to go and have a few social drinks with friends whilst shopping on a Saturday afternoon or to go out playing with my band (I used to play at The Cavern Club pretty regularly). I've been a member of several different forums in my time here, but XMTS already seems to have more camaraderie than many others - maybe it's the nature of the subject that draws a certain kind of person. Needless to say, I'm pleasantly surprised!
Oh and thanks, McClef for bringing tears to my eyes with the 'Leaving of Liverpool'. I'm off to download it now for my quick fix of home!

Another Welcome from an NC native. You should fine plenty of occassions to wear the kilt around our state and adjacent states. Check out the Loch Norman Games in April, then of course there's the Grandfather Mtn games.

Thanks for the welcome and info, bchunter. My wife has mentioned the Grandfather Mountain Games before - she happened to be nearby a few years before meeting me and tells me that it was murder trying to find somewhere to stay. We'll probably try to give it a go this year though

It is not a bad day trip from Winston.
If you like to camp there is plenty of room if you do not wait till Friday to
go set up your tent. Boone has some good places to stay if you book
early enough.
We usually have a good turnout of Xmarkers.

Welcome aboard from a peninsula in the Chesapeake Bay. You'll learn a lot here. Enjoy your first kilt, I just received mine within the past month and have been kilted twice so far. Enjoy, it's addicting!
