I've carried one of the healthy back bags from LL Bean for years. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/sto...Id=1&langId=-1 (See top row).

If this is not big enough for what you are looking for then I'd try the Guys Stuff line of bags and backpacks from The Territory Ahead. No one is going to call one of these a "girly bag"

Try maxpedition stuff. You can see them at Maxpedition's web site or all over the web for better pricing. Got a Jumbo and Fatboy and think they are great!

I have carried a briefcase or other bag for 40 years, and as a result I'm addicted to photographer's vests with 20+ pockets. They look a little funky with the kilt, but down-sizing to a sporran is a real challenge.

Those are some great looking bags to which everyone has linked. The canvas and leather look is classic, but the Peterman mailbag takes the cake!

what about the MK VII (Mark Seven) bag, the bag of Indiana Jones?
What Price glory has it both in original version and in "remake" one.

I like the original... I may have to spend a portion of my tax rebate on one...

I've carried a shoulder bag from Eagle Creek for years.

the new ones are a little different in design but appear to be very handy.

    OK,

    So there's really no verdict.

Perhaps I'll just make a old fashioned rucksack, and call it good.

    Thank you all.

I never had that 'un-manly' feeling when using my 8 year old messenger bag from Dakine. It is an excellent bag, as it was made with ballistic nylon and it is water resistant. The bag is very versatile. I use it for bike riding, motorcycling, carrying lunch to work, and carrying my stuff when around town.

That 'un-manly' feeling may have something that you don't see lots of guys using a bag like that. Lot of guys use shoulder/messenger bags because not every one drives and they need something to haul their stuff. Shoulder/messenger bags offer easy access.

Just get one ans use it daily. you just may start a new trend in your neighbourhood.

Kinda, but bigger. Like, the size of a backpack. Also, with two straps instead of one.
