Wow is that ever true, and the vast majority of my otherwise useless Scottish and kilted history has come right from or been directed from this board.
Monkey@Arms and I discovered that we were very critical of other's mode of dress when we were walking around at the Queen Mary Games. We could recognize a SportKilt, SWK, USA, handmade tank, various pleating patterns etc, etc, just at a glance. We also could tell the first time wearers from the more accustomed; the old-timers from the newbees, the posers from the wannabees. And we owed the awareness to X-Marks.

Yes, sir. Much knowledge has I picked up from this forum.
Also, searching kilt history, via links from the site, have led to a much appreciated history to the kilt. I find it a great resource to know that I can come here, talk kilt, learn kilt, and not get told off by a 14 year old. Sounds funny, but thats how it is. Thanks xmarks!

I think almost every reason to wear a kilt is summarised in that sentence.

I learned something new just yesterday. Actually, I learned several things, but the one that ties into this thread is a response to those poor ignorami who think Kilt wearing is a form of cross dressing.
I was watching Rob Roy on Hulu (I'd been meaning to see it for years) while doing homework, and I realized that the next time someone wants to make the aforementioned claim about kilts, I can take them to the computer, go to the movie, and I will challenge them to tell me who looks more like a cross dresser: the kilted Liam Neeson, or the bifurcated (in more ways than one ) villain?

Me too. I think it comes with the kilt-wearing territory.

A very, very good point!

Older Security guards seem to have forgotten that staring is rude when you have a look of disgust on your face.
Women "get it", non kilted men just don't.
Kilts are easier to put on in the morning.
People naturally assume I'm going to be an easy guy to talk to, which is great because I totally is.

And, a lot of the current extreme naysayers will become converts. I was and did.

Aint that the truth. When we first met my sister in law was adamant that HER husband was never going to wear a kilt. She was fine with me wearing one, but no way was her husband going to get one.
Well now not only does he wear them (he competes in the Games with me) but she is looking to buy him some more.

I'm also the "Kilt guy" at my bar. My friends and I get together for trivia there and other teams have used kilt in their name like, "two kilts and a cup."
I had to wear pants one day and went to my pub. I had all kinds of people stopping me and asking "where's your kilt?" "why aren't you wearing your kilt?" I never knew I had become a sort'ev different normal.
I think the kilt can be a good ice breaker for women. They like asking and I like answering.
Cheers to knowing what you're wearing too. I was wearing my Buchanan one night and a Buchanan walked up told me that he liked seeing his name out and about.
