I'm living in Bayou Blue, La. That's located about 50 miles SW of New Orleans. My address shows Houma, La but that is where the post office is.
I'm not from around here but I've been here going on 15 years. Came here following a job then got stuck.
I don't travel much anymore and try to go no more than where my bike will take me. I don't even go to the annual bike festival in Abita Springs as it is too far.
I have a work kilt for my daily wear but never wear it away from the homestead. This area is just too redneck and lowbrow for that. I get yelled at for daring to ride a bicycle in this domain of the pickup/suv.

    Greetings OldFool,

I lived in south LA for 8 years...have lots of friends in Baton Rouge, Houma, and my wife's family is in New Orleans and Covington. Been to Bayou Blue and that area many times while working for LA Wildlife and Fisheries, and still get down to Lake DeCade for duck hunting about every other season.

Last time I went kilted in N.O. I got photographed at least a dozen times...I guess folks thought I was an example of local color.

There are various Scottish societies in SE Louisiana. I'm in Baton Rouge and am a member of the Caledonian Society of BR and am active with the Scottish Country Dance groups both in BR and New Orleans (N.O. has a Caledonian Society as well). The Lousiana Highland Games in Jackson, LA are in November as well. There are also St. Andrews societies both in B.R. and in N.O. as well. If you're musically minded there are pipebands in Mandeville and Baton Rouge, (not sure about NOLA anymore.)
