I wear a kilt primarily for comfort. However I think even an off the rack kilt with good color coordination looks much better than a pair of pants on men of size.

Since I've been wearing a kilt I've looked at the way many men wear their pants. One thing that I think looks particularly sloppy is pants that are bunched up around the shoes. It looks like the pants are considerably too long. Not a problem with the kilt.

Also, since I have degenerative disk disease, I feel like a kilt worn at the true waist gives a certain degree of back support. Of course the smiles from the ladies, and the conversations that otherwise would not happen are nice as well.

Actually, I felt the same way - I wore my first kilt out in public within an hour of getting it in the mail. It just felt "right".

I haven't the heritage, but for all the reasons above. My standard answer is the same as AKG's: Because I can.

Besides kilts being AWSOME I got my first kilt (a black and white Menzies,16oz handmade) to honor my Grandmother. When she died I used the money she left me to buy it, I think of her every time I wear it.

Because if I wanted to be a conformist I would have gone to business school (as my parents wanted) instead of theatre school.
