Indeed. That's why I really LOVE the answer proposed on page 1 of this thread. Happened to me the other day whilst kilted.
"Are you Scottish?"
"Nope. Not at all."
"And you're wearing a kilt...?"
"Do you wear blue jeans?"
"uhh. Yeah. Why?"
"Are you a cowboy?"
"Touche."
Depending on my mood, I may also point out the argument that UK has on their website: "If women had an appendage between their legs, I can virtually guarantee you that they would not be wearing pants."

The "Are you Scottish?" question always makes me laugh. I used to tend bar in an Irish pub and I had lots of customers come up and tell me they were Irish. I always said, "Wow, you don't have an accent at all! How long ago did you move to the states?" (Of course I knew they weren't from Ireland.) I wasn't trying to make fun of them, just point out that it's silly (in my opinion) to claim to be from a country you're generations removed from.
The point is, I have Scottish blood. Am I Scottish? No. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I'm no more Scottish than I am any other nationality than American. But I do wear the kilt because it's the most comfortable thing I've ever worn.
My two cents. (Probably only worth 1 1/2 cents!)

When people ask if I'm Scottish (I'm not), depending on my mood I sometimes reply: "only from the waist down," or explain that the only thing Scottish in my blood came from a bottle.
Best regards,
Jake
Excellent link. Thank you Jake!
I also remember a DIY kilt made by an XMTS member shinchan The name sounds asian but the pics don't have the face visible.

I want to welcome you to the forum, and point out that I have no Scottish blood, but wore a kilt to a good friend's wedding.
You can see the photo from that event in my personal album here.

From another MoL member, I remember reading somewhere that the Red Rose of Lochbuie is the official pipe band of the Clan. BTW our chief lives in South Africa, not Scotland. I'm sure there is a story there, but I do not know it.

Reason: clarification, SA could mean either S Africa or S America

The chief of the O'Callaghans lives in Spain! In fact he's also a Spanish 'Don' as well as the head of an Irish clan at the same time, so he's both Irish and Spanish nobility. The next time you pass a Carlos O'Kelly restaurant (I've seen them but never been in one) remember that truth is stranger then fiction.

The Chief of the Lamonts is a Catholic priest living in Australia, if memory serves me. You'll find a number of chiefs living in the Commonwealth nations due to the diaspora in the 19th century.
