I'm angry for you, too, Phil.
Having dealt with a few of them in my career, I would encourage you to get to know a few headhunters, though, face-to-face. The more they know about you, the better they'll be able to advocate for you. They require occasional care and feeding - regular updates to make sure that you are on their radar. Now, I know that in this case they contacted you first, so you may not have felt it was necessary. But having once established a connection, you can ask them to help you find a good match elsewhere. Relationships matter, and the more you nurture the better your odds.
Though you can't resurrect this opportunity, you can salvage the situation. If you are interested, I'd be honored to discuss with you job search strategies off-line.
Best,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Phil,
I too share your outrage. Unfortunately, there are still some truly ignorant people in the world, and you found one of the big ones.
Hang in there, your qualifications are who you are. Not the method of transportation you use.

Lord knows I'm not one to encourage frivolous legal actions, but I'd be seriously considering calling an attorney at this stage if I were you. I don't think I'd want to work for such narrow minded people, but it may just have been the attitude of one person that got in the way. At the very least, that person and the company they represent, need to be sent a message.

I AM furious and I know I'm not the only one. The only good thing is that these people are obviously idiots and don't deserve your services. Just look at this experience as a speed bump. The brass ring is still out there.

I am not one to raise a rukus over ignorence but the Federal Govt has passed laws in support of the wheelchair bound such as yourself. Let's be honest, a company that operates in this manner is one who probably doesn't care about the employees it has already. I am sorry you experienced this, but it goes to probe that sometimes the disabilities a person has is not so obvious, till they open their mouth.

Another update
I've got an appointment with an attorney set up. I spoke with several different attorney's over the phone and all of them thought this was definitely an open & shut case. After reviewing my interactions with each and also doing some research on them I've settled on one that I'm going to move forward with. I'll keep you all posted.

I agree here. You should take this to the next level. Even if you don't work there, you'll let them know they can't treat other people like that, and maybe they won't jerk around someone else the next time!

I have to agree with your attorney's on this although I don't know the American laws on this. If they has gone through all of the motions Technical test, meeting with the HR Manager and then not giving you the job...well that is one thing the fact that she gave such a lame excuse to the head hunter and did not really interview you at all shows she is not to swift and inexperienced.
someone with more exp would have gone through all the motions and call you "not a good fit" (I hate that line, I've heard it too may times). Then the transport does not enter into it. But as you know she did not do that. She opened her company up to a major can of worms.
Good luck and hope she gets fired for this. By the way did the head hunter try to get in touch with the HR Manager?
