I can think of places in Scotland where even the most courteous and restrained Scot could not contain themselves if they saw some one wearing that!

That is not a price that I, for one, am prepared to pay, even if it was necessary to do so and it is not. The tartan kilt is doing very nicely, thank you.

Agreed a traditionalist like me I see.
Its like when does sports wear become fashion wear is it when it leaves the pitch or when it loses all connection to the sport. Many where I live in Scotland would see this more as cross dressing than a kilt. (no not having a go at cross dressers) Or fashion kilt wearers its just not what I feel is a kilt. But then I may be old fashioned.

If I were to visit Scotland, I would just have to wear a kilt -how could you not? I suppose that I would stand out blatently as an American wearing my Amerikilt or USA Kilt. Now what would be the Scots take of me in my Irish Tara tartan as well?

I've been to Oban several times over two trips and I like it, especially at sunset. It's just a few miles east of the MacIntyre ancestral home at Glenoe, close to Taynuilt.

Yeah, traditionalist, or pragmatist, i am not sure pimped up leather kilts will save the traditional tartan kilt with the younger generation. I would think the intent of spirirt of wearing the leather or the wool would be very different and I am not convinced there'd be switching from one to the other easily. I have been wrong many times before, just this morning in fact. Now could i see a situation where soeone rocking a leather kilt normally would wear a wool for their wedding because of a sense of familiarity? Yes i could see that.... but it'd be more their sense of occasion taking over.
Maybe it's just me, but Axel Rose is the one man I have ever seen that didn't look "out of place" in a black leather kilt...and well, axel,.. haha

Andy
Great shots glad you had a good trip to Scotland.
Ladies and Gents
I do not see that we need to discuss the different types of kilts in this thread, the original poster certainly did not ask about it, this was simply a thread about a holiday with photos. XMarks is a kilt forum that accepts both Traditional and Contemporary Kilts. It is after all a matter of choice. In the past the differences between the two camps Traditionalists and Contemporaries have caused problems on the forum, and hurt feelings etc., lets not let this report of a good holiday devolve into a spat between the two camps.

My apologies for contributing to the digression.
We all have thing in common, we're jealous of our friend recently returned from Scotland no doubt.
I'm also jealous of the people who live there I think :P
