A Challenge for Jock Scot!

I am very intrigued by the challenge that Rex has thrown down
If circumstances required a staunch traditionalist like our friend Jock Scot to come up with a Modern/Contemporary kilt outfit what would he choose?
The easy way out is too decline.
But there is a wealth of knowledge here on XMTS about Modern/Contemporary kilts.
Jock does have good taste
I for one would be fascinated to see if Jock could outmatch our modernists at their own game.
Cheers

I love that suggestion, Jamie. There's nothing like challenging one to step beyond one's comfort levels to (perhaps) broaden one's outlook on a subject - any subject.
The challenge has been issued. The gauntlet has been cast down. Will it be retrieved by the one challenged?

turpin,
If Jock agrees to pick up that gauntlet then it deserves its own thread.
Jock Scot,
If you take up Rex's challenge I suggest looking at photos of our contemporary/modern kilt wearers here on XMTS and cut and past them to show what elements you would use. I can help you with that if you need a little tech help.
Cheers

I do not claim to be a clothes designer, I do not have the wit to imagine which cloth goes with another. I see what I see, I either like it, or I don't, I may not like it all, I may even steal an idea here and there. Whatever I see I form a view, we all do, some good some not so good. Provided that view is respectfully given, even if it is a minority opinion, then no harm should occur.
These days I try to limit my senior moments to one a day and preferably away from the eyes of umpteen million users of the Internet!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

The rascal in me says pick up the gauntlet, my brain, such as it is, says" Jock you have no Idea about knocking up a fashion item and you have said so in your last post. Don't be silly and don't waste your time."Right then, I will not be goaded into a challenge that I am not at all sure that I am equal to.I form a view on what I actually see in front of me not,in fashion terms anyway, what I am (not) able to see in my minds eye. Show me a picture and I WILL, as you well know, tell you what I think of it.That I will do. Anything other than that, I decline so to do.

Actually, I think tall boots go well with contemporary kilts. These are a pair of sheepskin boots I picked up in New Zealand with my X-Kilt.

Alas.
Well, should a suitable picture form in your mind's eye after a few days or more of consideration, do let us know. There's no expiration on the challenge. Personally, I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit. You have more than demonstrated lately that you can do the things you think you might not be able to do, once you set your mind to it.
As for me, well, I tend to find good things to admire in both traditional and contemporary looks. And, I do have an opinion about what works and what doesn't. I can be specific about it, too, as others in this thread have offered in their critiques. I accept them as their considered opinions. I can appreciate your point of view, Jock, but if David had donned a tweed jacket and a tank, I would have posted the photo in the appropriate place.
Kind regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Well Jock I still think that if you ever put your mind to it you would surprise us all.
But, since this is the Contemporary & Non-Traditional Kilts forum it is best that the views and opinions expressed here be in the context of modern / contemporary kilts.
Our modernists accept that our staunch traditionalists are not keen on contemporary kilts, but this area of XMTS is dedicated to those very types of modern kilts.
Cheers

Quite so Jamie, but there is nothing to say that this particular section is "exclusive" does it? So there is no reason to be so defensive when some one pops in just to see what is going on, is there? I do quite often and usually I see something interesting, good or not so good, it matters not. In this particular case I could not see what all the rave comments were about, so I said so, in my,I hope, respectful way. Is that wrong? No of course it is not. Each to their own.
