    Great pics, great event!

I'd heard of a harp-guitar but never seen one, really interesting instrument. I'm a bit of an old folkie (no, not fogey!! folkie ) myself but I'm afraid it'd be a bit of a long commute from Savannah! Any music links available from the event?

Sorry for this late addition. Somewhere along the line 'my' camera became the 'family' camera and before I could upload anything to PhotoBucket my son flew off to Greece taking 'my' camera with him. Numerous texts later, a torn and battered envelope arrives at home. Inside is the memory card and miracle of miracles it still works.

So here then are my photos of the Rumney Folk Festival '09.

I arrived first at the B&B and a short while later Mr and Mrs English Bloke (John and Cagman) were there. It seemed that Doublewood Dave was stuck in traffic some 200 miles away and would catch us up later.

The three of us walked round to the church hall to meet Derek. He immediately whisked us off to his house where we met Elaine, his wife and Hamish. (Everything is within 500 yards of each other - B&B, church hall, Derek's house, restaurant.)

Two pictures of us all getting acquainted in Derek's kitchen.

We visited a social club that Derek and Elaine knew; had a drink; and then off to the restaurant. By now Dave had arrived.

Here we are enjoying a pre-starter:
Doublewood Dave, Derek, Elaine, Hamish, Cagman, English Bloke and me Chas.

The restaurant is called Spice Island; if you are ever in Cardiff - go, you will not regret it. Derek recommended the stuffed peppers (sweet peppers stuffed with cream cheese and then roasted). They were so delicious I almost ate the plate they were on.

At well past mid-night we finally parted.

10:30, next morning after a hearty breakfast, we are round again at the church hall. Last minute sound checks were going on.

For the next 12 hours there was something going on all the time. I found myself chatting to total strangers about kilts and kilt wearing and just enjoying the music. What I wasn't doing was taking enough pictures.

Here is one of the few. A man called Quince, playing the harp guitar. As you can see by this and the other pics it is the two instruments in one. What you can't hear is them both interacting with each other. As he was playing the guitar the harp was resonating in the background - like a kind of backing group.

    More to come

    Regards

    Chas

As the day progressed the hall started to fill up and there wasn't a lot of room for photography. The last shot before it filled up.

Because of the amount of people, I tried to capture the tartan / kilting element with these:

I don't really know what to think about them - could be a be a bit 'arty farty'?

Last picture, back to safer ground. There was a micro-brewery there. They had two ales 'Sundown' and 'Eclipse'. Didn't have the Eclipse but the Sundown was a nice clean ale with a good finish.

And talking about a good finish, this is the end. Very late to bed that night (or should it be very early to bed the next morning). Breakfast and a leisurely drive home.

All in all a really great week end. Good music, good company, friendship and good times. It was a pleasure to meet Hamish and Derek and Elaine and Doublewood Dave for the first time and John and Cagman again.

It has been said here before "I haven't met an X Marker that I didn't like." Never a truer word spoken.

    Regards

    Chas

looks like it was a great day!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Now cumon Chas You say they are arty-farty shots, I reckon you were just workin' out what buttons to press on the camera after all that beer I forced on you. It was a crackin' weekend. Great shot of the feet.

The feet, the feet, anybody would think that we had stumbled into www.foot_fetishists_are_us.co.uk. I was trying to get away from the 'All the kilties line up for a picture' type shot. Next time I think I will stand on a chair with a wide angle lens. (That should be my camera with the wide angle lens, not the chair.)

All this Podiatry and Chiropody aside it was a good weekend - I hope Robert will be able to come to the next one.

    Regards

    Chas
