Threads has posted a how-to for a nice ribbon work rosette. While meant to 'decorate' a dress, flattened out with a badge it would be quite handsome.

We now use one inch wide ribbon (27mm) for a more vintage look.

Here is the results on me sitting down and making one. I used a smaller ribbon and the hat is one of those being sold at Matt's Scottish Tartan Museum.
