Welcome, MacBob! I agree whole heartedly.

In our casual culture it's seen a bit weird to just want to look nice for no particular reason. Like Jimmy said, a kilt is expected in a very particular set of circumstances, and to wear it just for kicks seems odd to folks.
I suppose that I would ask "what's the occasion" if the party was wearing a jacket and tie with the kilt but if it was just a t-shirt or a sweater, I'd think that it's casual. This hearkens back to that "Kilt Wearing In Scotland" thread from a couple of weeks back.

If I had to wait for a special day or opportunity for wearing my kilts in Denmark I should never be able to wear them.
Therefore I just do it. I think the kilt/trousers rate is by now around 50/50 and the kilt share is on its way up.

which may be why there is such an impetus towards the casual kilt at the football matches (and also here).

I was a bit surprised at a funeral on Skye to see no kilts in the procession. We had kilts in church in Sussex when I was a child.

We attended services at St. Giles for a few months, and there was always at least one kilt a week. Haven't seen kilts in any of the other churches we've been to around here though.

Perhaps in Scotland we were spoiled by so many Homecoming events last year together with highland games, national football matches and a few weddings. It certainly was a vintage year for kilt wearers here in Scotland.

Possibly it could be the winter blues that I am suffering from as we are experiencing the coldest winter in years and when we look back at the events of last year, it is easy to become nostalgic.

So do any other X-Markers feel that same feeling of no impending kilt opportunities and how do you deal with this addiction?
Yes I feel the same!!!! St. Pat's is coming up!!!

Owning a kilt is reason enough to wear it, tho I agree that I'm more likely to wear it for a reason...ie looking nicer than usual...than just to wear it because.

I say wear it when you feel like it. If you need an excuse join Scottish Country Dancing, you will meet many very nice people as well.
