Ciao, Paolo!
My father was in Rome the day the Allies entered the city in 1944. There were crowds and crowds of Italian folk cheering the Allied troops, and some of them were handing out bottles of chianti.
The South Africans went into the front lines at Monte Cassino, and were at that stage part of the British Eighth Army. They were transferred to the US Fifth Army because the Free French and Free Poles had been sent to fight in France.
And it was the Fifth Army that entered Rome.
Regards,
Mike

Hi Bruno
and welcome abord.
I'm a Danish kilt wearer, who in 2007 was wearing the kilt on Sardinia, Costa Esmeralda, as shown in the pictures below. A very nice place.

Hi there! My country is not the best place to wear the kilt as "everyday robe" ! However, if you'll be in Rome, let me know

Im in Italy too
G'Day!!
Im Vincent from Australia, now living in Milan, and love wearing my kilt out in the City. Most of the questions asked by the locals is, "is it true what they say.......??"
Get heaps of smiles and people stopping asking if I like thier country, get offered a coffe and sometimes (when they know that Im new to Milan and have no family) an invite back home for dinner or lunch. Love this place!!
The locals guys try hard to speak English to me, they never ask if I can speak their language, hahahahahahah!!
