Millykilts, thanks for chiming in on this thread. I'm now rather upset, all over again, to learn that Glenisla is not what it was made out to be. I'll definitely have to reconsider my kilt being made by them. I need more research, or more input from others who have done business with them.

As for the one comment about beating a dead horse with a stick. No way! Would you be upset if you put the money out for a tank, sent it back to Scotland to be redone, and then received it back in almost the same state as you sent it? I fear you'd be spouting off also!

Anyway, Peter has stated that I will receive a total refund. So, that's good!!!!

Sorry if I caused offense. It was not my intent. After reading your early posts, though, it was abundantly clear to me that:

    1. You are very frustrated with the kilt that you purchased from Tartan Web.
    2. You still think that Peter Reid is a swell guy who provides great customer service, despite the fact that his business couldn't deliver a decently made kilt...twice.
    3. You're going to get a refund of your purchase price once you return the kilt to Tartan Web and will be looking for someone else to sew up a new, proper kilt.

Yes, I would be angry if I was in your situation. I'm just not sure what continued ranting accomplishes.

I've commissioned quite a number of handmade kilts and have never encountered this situation. Respectfully, I don't think it's a matter of dumb luck on my part. I did my homework before I purchased, saved up my pennies, and then waited in the kiltmakers queue for many months for each one because I knew I was buying directly from a kiltmaker I could trust. One of the risks of dealing with a internet-based company overseas who doesn't make their own kilts is that you can be taken for a ride.

I'm not sure why you chose to buy from Tartan Web, but my friendly advice for this next one is to deal directly with a kiltmaker who has a proven track record. There are many excellent kiltmakers here on XMarks and an abundance of reviews of their work. That's just one of the many wonderful things about this forum.

Look on the bright side. Perhaps your experience will prevent you, and many other forum members, from ever encountering this in the future. Best of luck.

    Cordially,

    David

David, ranting is good for the soul. Getting things off one's chest is good therapy! Now that it's off my chest, I'll take your advice and move on. Dealing directly with the kilt maker is the way to go. Thanks!

As a novice kilt maker with a long history of creating garments and costumes I can only gaze in wonder at the original and 'improved' photos - how on Earth can someone work with a fabric with so many stripes woven into it and fail to align both the horizontal and the vertical lines.

I think that the cure would take probably two or three times longer than making a kilt from scratch, as it would have to be completely taken apart - probably pressed flat and then restarted with no guarantee that the errors would not have made it impossible to form the folds correctly.

It would be interesting to get hold of the offending item to dissect it and see just what went wrong.

I do hope that the bitter disappointment can be forgotten in the pleasure of receiving a properly shaped and fitting kilt at some time in the future.

Anne the Pleater, I'm definitely looking forward to the refund and then purchasing a kilt that is properly constructed!

I'll keep everyone abreast of what transpires. It might be awhile, though.

Steve: I think this is a very judicious move. Absolutely no disrespect to Den but at least Scott will have a chance to acknowledge the issue and state his steps to make things right, or if perchance there were some miscommunication or misunderstanding he can address it. I work with suppliers as part of my job and have had a few issues positively mushroom into a bigger deal than needed, and getting the relevant people together to discuss the issue has often remedied things.

Who is Scott? Is he the owner of Tratanweb? I've already had significant communications with the sales manager, Peter Reid, and I don't think Scott can add to what has already been said, really!

As for miscommunication, I don't see how that can be! The kilt was made horribly. It was sent back to Tratanweb, and they agreed, after looking at the pics, that it was not done correctly. And, Peter agreed, on the second take, that it still looked horrible. Money to be refunded. Nuff said!??

I would, however, welcome any other comments from Tartanweb.

Add on: I just saw Rocky's post about St. Kilda, and it seems as though Scott IS the owner of Tartanweb.
