Tell ya what, EB...you do the Lancashire Cheese Trail and I'll do my semi-anuual Bacon Double Cheeseburger tour of Southeastern Minnesota and we can add our photo essays to the rich store of pictorial resources here.

I would very much be interested in the Cheese Trail, though...sounds like a good thing and it might help as a guide to whatever UK cheese we can find here in Chicago (or wherever in the USA). I'd imagine that. like me, most of us have heard of the famous cheeses (or those with funny names) but could use an education on the less notorious ones.

A local market here in southern Germany has been displaying some Irish and English Cheddars. They really taste good!.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the Wesleydale brand.

We get a lot of good Dutch and of course, German cheese over here.

It is very common to see the milk truck making its rounds, picking up between 30 and 40 gallons of fresh milk from local farmers in the area.

If you think of a cow as a grass processing machine, there are some by-products to milk production that are recycled back onto the fields to make new grass. This season of the year the farmers are mucking out their stables and applying the fertilizer on the fields. It's pretty intense the first day or two, but one gets used to it.

Tom? I've lived in Germany and recall it's not just cow muck they spread on the fields. And yes, it is a ferocious niff indeed. Another thing is, even in the cities you never seem to be far from the fields. Ooooh I do miss Germany.

BTW one branch of my family were miners who lived in Dalton-in-Furness. I'd love to visit there one day.
