YOU BEAT ME TO IT RICHARD!!! You are precisley right, and I was waiting to see if anyone would notice that, despite me really wanting to take credit for that observation first! P/M Burgess was a staunch supporter of his old regiment, even though he only served for a few years, he was indeed P/M of the 4th/5th battalions of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. These old boys would wear a single eagle feather in their Glengarry bonnets - quite striking, along with their Cameron of Erracht tartan - gorgeous sett and colours.

Exactly. On a sidenote, I found this website through P/M Burgess' Facebook 'dedication' page. In the photo you posted, check out the quite young Willie McCallum and Roddy MacLeod on 'our' far right - both incredible pipers in their own right! Wonderful shot of the group.

    Slainte,

    Slainte,
Haha, true. I saw their names in the caption... but had to do a double take to see the young Roddy McLeod! Indeed, you can't fault the company!

    Cheers,

    Michael

Interesting idea, but I think the stripes have more in relation with the tartan than any regimental tie. Here's the Queen's Own Cameron Highlander's tie:

Equal amounts of red (burgundy), green and blue, with a thin yellow stripe.

The hose to me look to be black (maybe they are a dark navy), red and green, and I don't see any yellow. Also the stripe configuration does not correspond to the regimental tie. It seems to be three narrow green stripes on either side of the leg, with a thin red stripe in the front center. The cuffs have wide stripes of green bordered by red.

I had assumed he had the knitter take elements off of his Hunting Ross tartan kilt as inspiration for the stripe configuration -- or maybe he just liked that configuration.

But I don't see an immediate relation to the regimental tie.

Keen observation Matt, and point taken. Perhaps you are right? I guess we all may never know?! Very solid point though.

    Cheers,

I think I see a narrow yellow line on the inside of each leg... perhaps not.

In any case, I don't think it's mere coincidence that a Cameron Highlander would wear striped hose in the colours of the Cameron Highlanders' neckties.

Even if the hose were not originally intended to be that, Mr Burgess would take a fancy to those familiar colours, I would think.

    These were my initial thoughts.
