Re: Regency Jacket Style
There is a double loop on each shoulder; one at the arm edge and one at the neck through which the tie, which buttoned close, could be worn. It was to take the upper portion of the belted plaid so negating the need for a pin and thus damage to the jacket and plaid.
Any chance you might have a close-up/"detail" photo, of the left shoulder, showing details of the loops and tie ) and buttoning)? I'd like to try that, on a jacket I have planned. I think this would also be useful for wearing a "Day Plaid"
Unfortunately all the buttons were removed from the jacket at some point so we don't know whether the one on this strap was flat of round (ball).

True Highlander Buttons?
Came across this article from a previous auction at Brightwells Auction House in England. They were from a collection being sold belonging to an Ian Smart and were described as 'True Highlander Buttons'. The inscription on the buttons is 'Fior Ghaidheal 1815' which when translated I believe means 'True Gael'.

Re: Regency Jacket Style
Excellent find and thanks for posting. The arms around the edges appear to be the same as those I remember from the Frontispage of The Book of the Club of True Highlanders. That would seem to clarify things nicely.
