Your Razor Choice (for the partially or fully bald-faced)

I am afraid I am sadly conventional and normally use a Gillette Mach 3, and their shaving gel for everyday use. However, if I am getting ready to go to a special event, (later in the same day/evening) and am a bit flush I enjoy going to a proper barber and getting the treatment with hot towels, traditional shaving soap, and then shaved with an open razor. I have also previously tried the traditional double sided safety razor but was never satisfied with the result. I dislike electric shavers, because I don't feel really clean shaven after using one.

Since I sport a full beard I only shave a few times a week to keep my neckline trimmed up. I use an old double edged saftey razor that I used back in the early 80's, but which is much older than that. I get blades at Walmart or Walgreens, but sometimes you have to hunt for them. Some days I shave dry, and somedays use shaving cream. I don't use my mug, soap and brush much since there really isn't room in our bathroom to store it.

In my opinion, shaving is the worst habit mankind has ever adopted. NO razor will ever touch this face again.

I always shave in the shower, and I recommend it. You can use the mug and brush nicely there.

for a blade, I use a Mach 3 or something like that. The baldes are not cheap, but I get a lot more than 3-4 shaves out of one, and my beard is not paticularly light. I can use on e for 3-4 weeks, and I shave almost everyday.

I use cartridge blades in a nicely weighted pistol grip style handle that I bought from Caswell-Massey, years ago. I am still using cartridges that I bought in a jumbo pack at a club store several years ago,so I have no idea what model they are; I am almost through the lot of them, and I am anxious to try some of the newer cartridges.

I reccomend an acetylene torch. You'll get used to the smell eventually.

So I am a straight razor guy. It takes a few extra minutes, but its worth it. Try looking at the badger and blade forum if you are interested in all things related to traditional shaving. There is also a website for guys who want a cheap, used straight to learn with, called whipped dog razors.

Norelco triple-head electric razor during the work-week, daily.
5-blade Gillette Fusion razor if I want to skip a day..... can't use a blade daily, my baby-face-skin doesn't tolerate it.

Pay attention you rabble! If you do shave part or all of your great ugly mug then hear these words of wisdom. I use a disposable Gillette Mach III, and I use the the same disposable razor for between 3 to 6 months! (no, the secret is not shaving only once a month) I don't use soap. Instead I use Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Lotion mixed about 50/50 with water. The most comfortable shave I've ever had, and it protects the blades. I know using a straight razor looks sexy, but comfort and cheap trumps everything else!
