Going on a cruise

That was done back in the heyday of transatlantic and transpacific passenger ships to travel from one place to another, as opposed to today's modern cruises which are vacations.

And, I haven't seen the streamers as its a big mess, both ashore and in the water. In today's "Green" environment, such doings are not so popular as they once were.

Most cruise lines still have sail-away parties that can vary from cruise line to cruise line. On Disney we had a really great time but on Celebrity it is more sedate and laid back. Still fun and I enjoy them but two totally different approaches.

On this particular cruise there is only one and its a "semi-formal" night.

On one of my last cruises I was going to take both a tux and a kilt, but between the two they filled up an entire suitcase and I didn't want to have to lug it all around. So my personal rule is either a kilt (with Argyll) or a tux.

If I ever get to go on a 14 day or more cruise, I'll definitely take both as there will be at least 3, and probably more, dress up nights.

On Cunard you can dress up every evening if you want.

You know how it is - if it's my "agreement" its negotiable, if its her's its usually written in stone.

Actually, we have discussed this issue several times and "she who must be obeyed" prefers that I leave the kilt at home when we go to the Caribbean, but I can take it when we go to Canada and Europe. Canada is coming up in the fall and we hope to do Europe next year, so I'm coming out ahead!

She likes me in a kilt though so all is not lost.

All reservations are made but for the dinners, port adventures (both of which I can't make until Feb) and some odds & ends like ties, etc.

We are now less than 3 months away and already marking the calendar

Well Drac, we've also changed our cruise plans so let me pull you out from under the bus!

We're now going on a cruise to Bermuda in September, instead of to Canada.

And yes, I'll be wearing my kilt for formal night.

My wife and I are finishing up our plans for our 25th wedding anniversary cruise to Alaska in June. I'll be kilted at least for the formal evenings.

I brought 4 kilts for my last disney cruise, so it was everyday in your face attire. I was better recieved on my dress than in normal life. I brought my PC and wore bowtie and vest for formal and straight black tie no vest for semi. I would not worry about being overdressed, remember those nights are big photo nights and you and yours can get great pics in your 9's.

For black tie, I prefer a Prince Charlie. However, if you can only take one, then the Argyll with waistcoat would be an excellent, and versatile, choice.
