    We've been to different weddings, I'm afraid. I've played for some where Big Mama ruled the roost, and the bride just wanted to run away. I baked for one for which the bride had made no decisions beforehand, and the ministers' wife, the Mrs. and I had to put together the ceremony and reception, all in one afternoon.

    To the OP: If there's a chance that you might be the cause of friction between your sister and your Mama, skip the wedding and go fishing that day.

    Yes, noting the "big mamma" scenario, I've made the offer to do a private "elopement" wedding too. All I need is a licence, notice, and a bit of marriage prep'n time, two witnesses, and we're off to the kirk! So far, we haven't done it, but the offer was absolutely serious.

    We thought about that. My bride-to-be and I are keeping the stress level to a minimum. Unfortunately, our families got it in their heads to try to keep it as high as possible. We did finally get them to back down, but before then we were seriously thinking about eloping.

    Re: Wearing a Kilt to a wedding

    I have worn a kilt to 4 different weddings;
    The first was my own 26 years ago. The running joke we have is that the Men wore Kilts and the women wore knives..We belong to the SCA and our arch of steel was Great Swords and Pole arms.....
    Then I wore a Great Kilt and was the replacement for the Brides Father...She was marrying a Cameron;
    Lastly I was head usher for a civil war wedding for a MacKenzie, short tux jackets and Kilts for the wedding party. Victoian Dresses and Plaidies for the Ladies including the Bride.
    My Kilt is about the only formal wear I own. I last wore it to a friends furneral.

    Oh dear... You bring up a very important point that I completely overlooked, in a gross oversight on my part.

    I can't really add much, other than saying I know exactly what you're talking about... puppet mistresses.

    Well, it's easily found due to its simple chemical formula of H2Oly!
