Got the new kilt in from Rocky. Here it is in the outfit that will be going to the Ball. I got the pass today on the kilt. Yes, I will be wearing the medals as I was told that (while discussing wearing a uniform if not the kilt) that I will not be the only one wearing medals. This coming from one of the ladies running the event, a 23 years National Guard vet. Quite a few people have worn medals in the past. Not surprising since it was a major Navy training base for decades. A lot of people retire to their last duty station.

Jacket is going to the tailor & cleaners, shoes are getting polished, tie will be better done and I'm getting a new shirt. Probably a full collar.

I forgot to mention that Amy got here outfit for $30 so far. She looks like a knockout in the Mardi Gras purple ball gown (as usual) and just needs to get a set of kitten heels and a new hat. Already talking with the millinery in the French Quarter to make one for her. She plans to get a small delicate facinator.

Your sporran should be hitched up about an inch to an inch and a half higher in my humble opinion. My two cents.............
And, for formal wear, it should have a chain strap rather than a leather one.

    Thx.

Got to add a hole to the belt due to weight loss. On the last one now. As for chain I don't know if I can get it to work. When Howard made the sporran he did it knowing I use belts and the slot I put the belt through is very wide. Way to wide to put the strip the chain hooks to, about twice the width. Also worried about the effects the chain can have on the wool. I noticed that before I got the belt that the apron was getting some pilling where the chain rubbed.

Ya, I don't think a sporran chain is a "should" as much as a "could" for formal wear. If you have a nice chain strap, it can add an extra layer of bling, but even the nice ones will wear and tear the kilt more than a leather strap...

Got Amy's outfit together. Don't know why I worry about what I look like -

And the hat (fascinator) to come -

Please excuse the poor quality shot of Amy as she had just got done cleaning up after working out at the end of the day. Add in poor lighting and a even poorer photographer.

Just to quell your concerns... I never wear a sporran chain. Specifically because of what it does to my kilt. I figured I was in the minority and I probably am.

Didn't mean to throw a monkeywrench into the thread about the chain. It's just the most "traditional" thing to wear and shouldn't really hurt the kilt too much if worn only one night on occasion. I'm not terribly traditional as a rule anyway so don't mind me.
