No sir, you are not a troll, and I hope you have just misunderstood my point, and are not presenting a straw man ( which I don't think you'd do).
To clarify; I felt the tone of your reply was such that you were treating Nighthawk as if he were trolling.
My apologies if you felt otherwise. No issues with our disagreement, but let's keep it on point.

Chas, I'm afraid you are. You've cast yourself as the bad guy by demonstrating a complete lack of sensitivity for another member's plight. I think your post is appalling! There are times when our precious Kilts don't really matter very much. This is one of those times.

I agree with English Bloke. We all love kilts but one of our brothers is hurting. I am actually a wee bit misty thinking about the weight that must be upon his shoulders right now. I have never been a parent but many of the folks here are. I am sure that they do empathise with Nighthawk.
I feel that the purpose of a place like XMarks is to bring people together...while this is a kilt venue, kilts and Celtic fare are largely a vehicle to do that here (create unity).
There will always be a stodgy stick in the mud who doesn't give a toss for others. Humbug to them, too!
Nighthawk, I sincerely hope that you and your family and friends are able to find peace and recover from this tragedy.
Chas, I think that you owe Nighthawk an apology.
MODS: (especially Anne) Thank you for providing another opportunity for us to reach out to a brother in his time of need. Although a few have completely missed the mark withbtheir posts, I believe that you guys judged correctly and the rabble have responded in a way that echoes your judgement. Look at the poll.
(Stepping off of my soapbox now.)

Somehow the poll, which should have been attached to the moderator discussion thread has travelled with the thread itself. There seems to be no way to disable it, or move it to where it ought to be - not that I can see.
The moderators thought that Rule 11 had not been infringed - so I moved the thread back here.
My argument was that it is about the trial.
IF it was about weapons then by the same argument it would not be proper to mention an American or other armed policeman, serving in the armed forces, cooking or eating wild duck, venison or any game animal, using fur from an animal which had been shot - but then things would just get silly - wouldn't they?

Nighthawk, I wish you and your family peace and comfort in a tragic situation and environment where both can be hard to find. I can't even begin to comprehend the feelings and emotions that you must all be dealing with. Please don't make a decision now, in the midst of this disquiet, that would prevent us from showing our concern for you and your being able to benefit from our support.

Nighthawk,
You absolutely do have friends here. Please count me among them I was unaware of your personal connection to the event. MY thoughts are with you, the other victims, including survivors and their families. No one except the defendant is unsympathetic.
That being said, the trial and the violent acts of that man are inextricable from one another. This could easily devolve into a violation of Rule 11, but so far has not. Let's all keep it that way and let bygones be bygones.

And now it has gone far enough I think. Insults are not merited here.
I have no dog in this fight . My thoughts are with Nighthawk for what must be a truly horrendous ordeal. I sincerely hope that he and his family find the strength, fortitude and support through the coming days and weeks.
However Chas was not disrespective he was merely highlighting a point of order and expressing what he believes was a contravention of the rules. Now whatever your opinion there is no reason to stoop to personal insults. He is as much entitled to his view as you are to yours.
This is a forum and a pretty boring place it would be if we didn't view things differently let us respect that and get back to what this thread was originally intended to be and that is to support a fellow xmarker in time of need.

Simon, it was not intended to be directed at any one person but a general comment about how sometimes people are genuinely unsympathetic toward others.

Bren. Point taken but I still think that Chas or anyone else for that matter is entitled to express an opinion. How we take that opinion and whether we agree with it or not we should respect their rights to express it.
Who was it that once said " I may not agree with what you say but will defend to the end your right to say it"
