One could definitely say it, but I fear to do so would be to miss the point of the original post. I am looking for tartans that have some significance above and beyond their affiliation with a particular "someone, somewhere."

The critical factor here is how many someones and somewheres, making the more accurate and appropriate question one of popular tartan rather than notable.

I don' think the question here is popularity. A very rare or rarely worn tartan with unique meaning may be more properly be one on the OP's list.

Understood, Padre. The point is that every tartan has unique meaning to someone, somewhere, at some time or other, making each one "notable" in its own way.

actually, I think there is also a Rabbinical tartan - I admit it is MUCH more recent.

Which is well beyond beautiful. With all that purple, however, I would be a bit hesitant. It's the colour of the episcopacy and there are a few who might frown rather heavily.
