It's still a beautiful story-it would make a lovely little operetta!

Yes, that’s true. However it could also have ended as an opera, a La Boheme or a La Traviata. So to put an end to the telling:
In January eight years ago my wife started going through a lot of medical examinations and eventually a tumor in her right kidney was found and, as we feared, it proved to be cancer.
We decided to wait for the consultant who had examined her to come back from his skiing holyday and accordingly not until the beginning of April she had her surgery.
During that time we collected good stories about people having suffered from the same kind of cancer, and we told upfront people that if they had not a positive story to tell they should keep their silence.
In this way we had a lot of good stories and that gave us confidence and hope for the future.
When my wife four-five hours after her surgery was awakening and I sat at her bedside the consultant came to see her. I never before saw a man so proud of his own work. He had managed to really seal the kidney so nothing could have escaped it, he told us. It was a masterpiece, no doubt about it.
We felt so relieved - and had good reasons to. My wife is doing extremely well.
She had no after treatment at all. If the cancer cells had spread to other parts of the organism there should have been no cure against it. No chemo, no nothing. Only some medicine to take her pains during the last time of her life.
That period of our life also meant something to my kilt wearing. Until then my wife had been afraid of possible reactions from surroundings, should they get to know. Now such things were no longer important. I should feel free to wear my kilts wherever I felt like it, she told me. And if wearing kilts might mean that I would walk more and thereby keep myself at good health she should be so happy.

Man I really like that outfit, DyerStraits!
IMO, you did an excellent job of presenting a contemporary look with a traditional, tartan kilt. Flippin fantastic.

Many thanks, eclarkhb, apparently I got everything right, judging from the compliments I've received.
And Greg, your experience perfectly supports my belief that our love of opera is arguably and in many ways not only the manifestation, but also a fulfillment of the perspective we gain from maturity and the challenges of life, as well as our appreciation of what a blessing it is to actually have an opportunity to live and love with equal passion. I suppose it's what makes seeing one's favorite opera over and over anything but boring. God bless you both.
