We obviously tend to think of kilts first and foremost here on this site, but there are plenty of other places where this tartan might look great. As a tablecloth, or curtains, or a shawl, for example. It might even look good as upholstery for certain furniture. It needn't be a good kilting tartan to be meaningful or popular for other uses.
While it may not be my cup of tea, I'm sort of glad that they did some "outside the box" thinking and didn't try to make it look like a traditional clan tartan. At least this one will be uniquely theirs, and I hope they are successful in making it a popular symbol for their area.
Precisely, Tobus. Well said. My thought process as well.

Spot on, Tobus.
Not my cuppa, either but I wouldn't say that it's ugly, per se.

"uniquely" as in nobody else will want it? ![Hide](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/hide.gif)
Way too pale for me but then I wear Mackenzie Seaforth and Modern. Looks a tad on the lightweight side too but that may have just been the breeze.
9/10 for seeing it through to completion, though.

OMG!
I've just realised.
The designer is a GENIUS! She has just solved the problem of whether or not to fasten one's bottom button. Think about it, who else could be asked "What do you do? Fasten your jacket fully, or leave the bottom button undone?" and honestly reply "Both! Simultaneously!"
Now all we need are waistcoats cut like that...
*Edit* I probably shouldn't be so harsh on the poor girl, but that opportunity was too good to miss

You have lost me there between the buttons. Three buttons with three buttton holes, what's wrong with that?

Hi Carlo, if you look closely, there are three buttons but only two buttonholes, and the length from lapel to hem is longer on the button side than the buttonhole side, hence my jokes.

I think there are actually three buttonholes. One is almost hidden under the lapel on her right side (left side in the photo). The jacket looks asymmetrical because the lapel fold-over is longer on one side than the other (and she's standing a bit crooked with one side of the jacket dipping lower than the other), but it appears that the buttons match the holes.

Oh yeah! The lapels are uneven. Dammit, that's ruined my jokes.
