It looks better than I would have imagined. Is it acrylic?

Enjoy!
It might be rather hip if a major USA retailer did something similar, marketing a bunch of tartan kilts at bargain basement prices.
After all, there are substantially more Scots-blooded folks here than in faire Caledonia, albeit a tad more spread out....

The thought occurs to me whilst reading this thread that it matters not what the kilt outfit costs, £30, or, £800 and there are a whole load of perfectly sound reasons why people make their purchasing choices. However, if one wants to get full value, then please wear the the damn thing properly! £30, or, £800 matters not if the kilt is worn too low and the hose are pulled up to the bottom of the knee, like footballers do, the whole outfit will still look like a dogs dinner! "Trollopy" is the word oft used and I am unable to find a better description.
So you don't believe me. Fair enough. But after the Burns do, just remember those that looked a million £'s in their kilt attire, you will, probably, have no idea what the outfit cost, but my goodness for certain sure, they will have looked the business!

I can't seem to edit my post, so just to add on to the last sentence :-
-----------because the are wearing their kilts properly. For goodness sake show some knee---------a lot of it!

To be fair, the faults I saw in the kilts were very slight - small flaws in the sewing which would be invisible when worn but would be like the pea under the 15th mattress in the fairy story for me.
And Jock is right, wear it properly and no one would be able to distinguish it from an expensive one.
It would be as well to treat it carefully if it requires pressing - though the ones in the shop had been carefully packed into bags and folded over, were not at all wrinkled and could have been worn at once - do not iron or the wool like surface will become polished and give the fibre content away. Use a dry or very lightly damped cloth - spray with a mist producing squirter bottle for preference and only ever press, don't run the iron along or go over the edge of the pressing cloth onto the fabric itself.

Visited 2 Lidl's last night. The selection was very limited. the kilt sizes were 30-32 and 34-36 and shirt sizes med and large. Wanted 2 white shirts (one to dye green to keep my wife happy) and both shops only had one white medium. Kilt sizing for me would be 32-34, which was not an option in the shops I visited, but the quality and amount of material in them seemed very good. The pleats on a Hamilton Grey I looked at did not appear to be all the same size, but I did not remove the packaging to examine it properly.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I bought a Black Watch one in a 32, which will be a bit of a squeeze, it was either that or a 44... also matching bagpipes and white ghillie shirt to complete the cliché
There was an abundance of Hamilton Grey kilts, but I already have one. Not bad, it's good to see them on sale outside of Scotland, and especially in West London pics to follow. ..

I also bought the matching bagpipes in black watch, they seem rather unplayable :-) I am able to get a few notes (sounds) but I rather suspect they are meant to be a novelty accessory to the kilt outfit.....perhaps something to attach to your belt?

I'm with the rest of the 'Muricans that would like to see kilts on the floor of a chain store over here (Target maybe?). I know I would probably walk out of the store with one or two- even though I am a tartan skirt girl myself.
I do wonder if one of the larger clothing chain 'boutiques', like GAP or AF, carried 'proper-er' kilts, if they would take off a bit with the youths?
I would love to see more people in kilts, worn correctly and with pride, of course.
