Best boots and accessories for a drinkin' Kilt...

Recently I purchased my first kilt thinking it would be perfect for all kilt wearing occasions.
Not so...
With a potential outdoor music festival and an international rugby match on the horizon, I've bought myself an ex hire 'drinkin' kilt' for those times I might have a beer or two! 🍻

I'm thinking some type of walking boot or possibly a pair of desert boots to wear with the drinkin' Kilt.
Would you wear proper kilt hose or walking socks, rolled down or up with flashes and what about a sporran.... day sporran or no sporran with just a belt?
HOW DO YOU GUYS DRESS DOWN YOUR KILTS?

I think that most will agree that the choice is totally up to you and your own sense of style.

Most will also agree that Red, patent leather, thigh high boots are right out with a knee length kilt. Other than that, wear what makes you most comfortable. There is no right or wrong. There is no preferred footwear and believe me when I say that I have seen it all.

I'd stick with a sporran since most kilts do not have pockets and I expect the barman will want you to get your tab settled. ;)

When going out and about "dressed down", I wear a sporran, kilt hose and flashes. When pottering about at home, I dispense with those accessories! But I agree that the choice is up to yourself.

For casual kilt wear, I generally opt for my hiking boots, worn with kilt socks (likely my khaki pair from What Price Glory or a cotton pair from Sock Dreams if the weather is hot). I will likely skip the flashes.

I see the sporran as a must for two reasons. First, I need somewhere to carry my wallet, keys, and such. Second, the sporran prevents any "Sharon Stone" moments where I unintentionally answer the question about what's under the kilt.

For casual events, I go with a simple day sporran. I have a "Rob Roy" style one that holds lots of stuff if needed and a standard black one with the three tassles on the front. Both look fine for such occasions.

Shirtwise, in summer I often go with a safari/military kind of shirt or lightweight collarless shirt I picked up in Cambodia (sometimes I go for the dreaded "ghillie" shirt) and in winter lean towards turtlenecks.

But it really is all up to you. I suggest thinking about where you are going and what you are doing, since your shirt and shoes need to be practical for your activity and environmental conditions.

I really like the brown brogue boots that have been posted. I first saw a pair I liked at Clark’s, but the widths were all too narrow for me. Now, to go with my USA Kilts Cù Dubh ... I was wanting black ... got an Alice Cooper concert coming up, don’t want brown boots with my black kilt. And then Dr. Marten offers us a new hardware model ... day 1 of the breaking in process has begun.
