The shortened vest looks good. I also like the cummerbund, which would be cooler and more comfortable to wear during the summer.

It must be the glare off the buttons. The vest buttons are the same as the smaller ones on the epaulettes and cuffs (just under 3/4 of an inch) while the rest of the jacket buttons are about an inch.)
I went out and picked up a new larger black satin bow tie (for a whopping $8) which matches the vest perfectly.
When the F-H.C.A.G. gets the vest sewn up I'll post a final picture.
Thanks again friends!
Cheers

The vest looks great - I'd maybe do it a touch shorter.
If the buckle wasn't round, the belt would still be my choice. I still don't like the cumberbund, but the black bowtie looks MUCH better and more formal.

Glad that you worked this out.
Now more importantly: What will the F-H.C.A.G. be wearing? I'm voting for the red dress.
Got myself a tweed jacket that needs converting. Is your new tailor familiar with what needs to be done?

The lovely Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess has quite a few slinky cocktail / evening dresses. I believe she has a black and red number that is the most likely candidate for the Burns Night Supper. I really shouldn't be so worried about my formal outfit. With her on my arm who is going to be looking at me?

Ms. Thanh did fine work on the tux. But she didn't have to mess with the sporran cutaway or modifying the pockets. I've been on the lookout for a green or charcoal sportcoat at the thrift store for a coat that's in-between my my Tweed and my PJ jackets. I will take it to her with my tweed to show her exactly what I want.

OK Gang,
The lovely Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess sewed up the vest and I put on my new bow tie.
Here is the final version.
I raise my glass to all that offered their opinions! You were all very helpful.
