Welcome from Western Scotland. And what a great find at a thrift store. Good for you!
Here's a great excuse for wearing a kilt... Because you want to.

    Sorry, had to got there.

Welcome, fellow Tarheel! Coming to Grandfather this year?

I would normally pass by booths like that, but for some reason the word "kilt" popped into my head. So I looked around a little, and there it was. LOL Thanks again for the warm welcome.
Hi reedplayer and welcome , Im a newbie also. I was wondering if you could tell me about your Macpherson kilt? Is it the pattern that makes it a MacPherson? I am such a newbie.

Hello and welcome from New Hampshire.

There really does seem to be an inordinate amount of Carolinans on this board for some reason. The more kilties the better.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Hello Rifleman Being a newbie myself, I'm sure you can get much better answers from someone else about this. But I'll take a stab at it. Traditional kilts come in "tartans"....basically the design.

    According to Webster's; Tartan:
    1. a woolen or worsted cloth woven with stripes of different colors and widths crossing at right angles, worn chiefly by the Scottish Highlanders, each clan having its own distinctive plaid.
    2. a design of such a plaid known by the name of the clan wearing it.
    3. any plaid.

Most tartans are associated with a specific clan, group, district, etc. When I picked up my MacPherson Hunting Modern at the antique store, I had no idea what the tartan was. So I found a tartan finder at http://www.thetartanbox.com/Tartans/Tartan-Finder.htm and started going through all of the tartans on file there until I found mine. Took a little while. LOL That's my most basic knowledge. Hope it was helpful.

    Many Thanks Reedplayer
I can see how it all comes together now. You really got my interest when you sited your MacPherson hunting kilt. Because the MacPherson clan are my direct kin. As are three other Scotish names in my family .
And so the pix you included is a real bonus for me to see a real MacPherson kilt pattern. You have the look of a true Scotsman. Thanks again.

    Greetin's from South-West England.

I must say I am shocked and appalled that there aren't just men wandering about in kilts all over Carolina!
