These kids are actually John Wayne's kids!

As cool as that was, I noticed that none of them wore sporrans. I found that odd. But yeah, great film! It was really funny, and full of Irish (although sometimes [usually] stereotyped) wonderfullness! [/QUOTE]

Having grown up in Ireland I think I think I need to explain the lack of sporrans.
a lot of kilts here were not tartan, Colours like saffrom, grey, navy blue, dark blue and green were the colours of the day.

This would have been a typical gaeltacht Sunday parish fete for thoes that have watched the filim.
In the 1950 Onwards the kilt was worn in certain areas and for certain events, Like irishdancing, and Pipe bands.
parts of our army wore the saffron kilt, as did a lot of our scout troups.
The look the boy are wearing is a little on the casual side but it is a good look.

Wasn't there a thread about a year ago saying that the sound stage set of the interior of the bar being moved to Ireland to become a tourist destination?

I watched the Quiet Man not too far in the past. It's a great movie and one of the few John Wayne movies I can stand to watch.

This has long been one of my favorite movies. I have it on DVD. I might still have my VHS copy, too.

I probably don't have the quote right, but my favorite line was:

"and here's a fine stick to beat the lovely lady with...."

    or something like that.......

    Great flick.............

My favorite line is something like, "Have the decency to refrain from hitting the man until he is your husband, and can hit you back."

    It is something like that.

I think its more tradition more than anything else.

The sporran was never worn for irish dancing, How ever in scottish highland dancing its moved to the side.I have seen quite a number of Irish pipe bands who did not wear the sporran.

But then in my time I have seen a lot of kilts which were not fit to be kilts.

The dancing kilts here always had less pleats and I have worn kilts that were held on the apron and hips by velcro and a prayer.
