One thing I've learned about machine washing kilts with velcro on them -- wash them with the velcro fastened. It decreases the threads caught in the velcro, and the pilling of the fabric from the velcro hooks hitting it during washing.

I received a Buchanan Thrifty-Kilt from SWK a few days ago. I love it. Fit's great, feels great, looks great, and for me the light weight is wonderful for hot days due to a large percentage of my sweat glands no longer functioning because of a neurological disease.

I have 10 Stillwaters, 3 wools, 3 standards, 3 economies, and now a thifty. I plan to pick up a couple more of the thrifty kilts for next summer. To me, Stillwater makes kilting everyday a practicality when money is an issue, as it is for me on a fixed disability income.

    Kilted full-time since August 2005.

I "broke down" and ordered my Thrifty on sunday (9/18), went for the Black Watch. While I love my CCC Tank there are some things I don't want to do in it...like kickball. I won't even do a side by side comparison because they are totally different kilts on the opposite sides of the spectrum. By all accounts I should have it any day now, let y'all know......

The Thrifty arrived Weds, and I've been wearing it quite a bit. Overall I'm pleased with the Kilt, would have like the velcro to go farther around. I did like that it was sett to the strip, it's very comfortable: not having that prickle wool can have. On a really windy day the kilt maybe a tad on the light weight side. However a nice light kilt in the hot Phoenix weather is good to have, wish I had had this kilt for the 1/2 to St. Paddy's day, rather than my tank.

funny side note, I get my Thrifty and a day later I order my next (3rd) Kilt and I'm starting to become addicted to wearing them, 'cause they are so comfortable.

I"m wearing an SWK Thrifty in Black Stewart right now. If I was going to any sort of kilt function, though, I would probably wear my SWK Standard.

    Thumbs up

Well despite saying in my introduction that my first kilt was going to be a "Newsome." After a couple weeks here at XMTS and waiting for swatches to arrive, I just couldn't take it any more. I clicked on over to SWK and purchased an Irish National, thrifty. I really did not expect to see it until next week but here it is, less than two whole days. Woo Hoo! I am pretty excited to have my first kilt! I think I might wear it on a day hike next week for my first outside, cuz I know I'll be wearing it around the house before then. My Fiance was feeling a little left out of all the new fun, so she got a Black Watch to wear around the house. ;) Hats off to Jerry and the Space Time Teleportor.

I ordered my thrifty on Wed, received it on Saturday, wore it Saturday night
GREAT quality for they newly kilted, as well as someone looking for a "knock around" kilt!
I will definitely be buying another from them!
I truly can't say enough good about Jerry's shipping, it's the stuff of legends.

Update: Ordered my second Tuesday, should be here tomorrow.. Am currently looking at a heavyweight (after all, winter is coming!)

You know... if SOMEONE were to start a thread for Jerry that would come to some majoritive concensus on one or two HIGHLY SOUGHT tartans... he might just hear you!
    (Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge)

To this point, he's been so kind as to provide the authentic Irish National Tartan, all green, all black, saffron, and Leatherneck. He's also improved the product immensely with the quality of the heavy-weights, and improved the affordability with the "Thrifty".

It's REAL obvious that the man reads and acts on the market. You guys all have a WONDERFUL forum to express your wants, and have them understood!

Consider XMarks your lamp and Jerry's the genie!
(Personally I would prefer Barbara Eden)

I'd kind of like to see something less based on the Black Watch tartan. Maybe something with more blue or purple -- warrior, or American National or something.
