PV feels like a "thick cotton". If you want a swatch of PV, send me a SASE with a request for a certain tartan and I can send you a swatch.

Just for me - guess there are many responses to your question Joel - PV feels like what it is. Polyesther and Viscose (the English name for Rayon). And Rayon is synthetic cotton. So for me it feels sort of like the material used for polyesther/cotton fabrics...only its in kilt form so there's more of it, all the pleats, the aprons....there's heft.
I can guarantee you its not a "bad" or "weird" feeling. Looking at the material it looks very much like cotton, but it hangs much better, doesn't get that "rumpled" look.
Send Rocky the SASE and check it out for yourself...but checking it out in kilt form is a much better way.

Rocky, thanks for answering my question. I'll be doing that. I often figured it'd be like the thick cotton cloth on my West Point USMA greatcoat. So, it'll probably keep me from going insane from the "itch" my wool uniforms always give me.

Ron, thank you for the additional information! I know that you know what you're talking about because I've seen the photos of your kilts - and they all look great; the wool and PV.
I love how one can learn so much new information on this site. Cheers.

Okay , I have read every one of these and it got me thinking, The last kilt my wife bought me was was P/V so I go home last night and look at the lable inside said kilt and it reads " 65% Polyviscose 35% Acetate, So now I'm wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing..

On a side not here, I have a couple of the pleats on this kilt that really need to be pressed as they some how got screwed up or were screwed up when the wife bought it and I was wondering if anybody can give me any suggestions on how to do this.
Thanks in advance, you folks are the best source I know of.

Just a word of caution: look at the thread entitled "Worst. Kilt. Ever." for some issues with PV material vs wool. Not a lot of satisfied customers with PV thus far.

I'm sorry...I just don't believe that unless people are getting something other than the Marton Mills PV. As it has been pointed out in this thread, a lot of cheap kilts are said to be made of PV but it turns out that it's not PV but poly cotton or acrylic.
If they could up the weight of the PV in the weaving, it would be downright unbeatable. I recently picked up a nice grey suit that's PV and it's very nice.

I can't find any bad things said about PV in that thread at all. Are you sure you're not getting PV mixed up with acrylic?

PLEASE don NOT mix up PV with "other alternative" fabrics. Not one of the compaints on that thread were about MM's PV fabric.

Rocky is trying to be polite. I, on the other hand am a curmudgeon so I'll make it clear.
Polyester/Viscose is a blend of Polyester fibers mixed with Rayon fibers.
P/V AND ACRYLIC ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!
IF YOUR LABEL SAYS "ACRYLIC WOOL" SOMEONE IS LYING TO YOU. IT IS ACRYLIC AND NOTHING LIKE WOOL!!
UNLESS YOUR KILT'S NON WOOL TARTAN FABRIC COMES FROM MARTON MILLS IN ENGLAND, YOUR KILT IS NOT MADE FROM P/V. IT IS MADE FROM ACRYLIC OR SOME OTHER FIBER!!
ROCKY DOES NOT SELL ACRYLIC KILTS!!
EVERY KILT MENTIONED IN THE "WORST KILT" THREAD IS MADE FROM ACRYLIC!!!
THERE ARE NO $80.00 P/V KILTS!!!
IF YOUR KILTS' FABRIC FEELS LIKE POLAR FLEECE IT IS NOT P/V!!!
Is that plain enough for you?

I think the only way you could make it clearer is if you were standing in front of us with a sample of each fabric in your hand....
As long as we're discussing synthetics... I have a kilt that is labeled as viscose/acetate... is there a common American name for acetate, like rayon/viscose?
and is this fabric more like acrylic or PV?
