No no, Alan, that's not off topic at all. That is exactly what this thread is about; spicing a solid color kilt. Please post your ideas.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I think a solid color kilt would look quite good with some of that embroidery like what you see on the fancier mexican sombreros and other Southwestern art... Perhaps even on the edge of each pleat. How does that sound?

Ya, Rex's pics are the center piece of the thread... He described them well too.

Thanks again Rex. And also thanks to Ron Kilt Macdaddy for his pic.

I'm taking out those pics. My pics are in the photo gallery. I might put them in the first post though.

Can a vest from a regular suit jacket be worn "as is" with a kilt? Might be a way to snaz up a solid color kilt.

They are more than likely longer than a kilt vest. Try it though.

    Ok, Thanks.

The bottom of the vest comes down passed the top of the kilt across the back. Blind guy here, I need someone to tell me, with out pictures, how short a kilt vest should be if you would.

Don't give up just yet, a vest might be easier to alter than a jacket. Another option is a retro clothing store, a vest receives very little wear and tear over it's life. I would think that a vest at the back should just cover the top of the kilt rather than showing kilt, flash of shirt then vest. I feel that the front can cover the front by a couple of inches without affecting the sporran. Anymore than that I'd look for another vest. Another find would be a full bodied wool/tweed vest rather than tweed at the front and satin at the back. When I ordered my vest and Braemer from USAK I forgot to order my vest in full tweed. The extra cost would have been worth it.
