    to quote Fez from "That 70s Show": "Frankly, I don't give a rat's ***"

I haven't got squat about this except from close friends but it's all fun (I think), but if the time comes I shall use maybe one of the responses or just walk away.

Well, the only time I'm ever wearing that kit is during training (during which time I'm either holding something very dangerous or throwing someone/being thrown around the training hall) or between the gym and the locker room... that said, when random people do see it, they stare in much the same way as they might at the kilt. But now that you mention it- no, I've never heard the word "skirt" associated with my hakama.

I had this happen to me last week at the doctors office, a woman in the waiting room asked the receptionist
"Is it OK if I tell him that's a nice skirt?"
She obviously liked the kilt but did not know the proper word for it, I simply told her that was fine and if she wanted to talk directly to me she could.

I had this happen to me too, but the speaker was talking in Spanish, and obviously thought that I didn't speak Spanish.... I turned to her and told her - "Gracias, pero puedas hablar conmigo. No voy a morderte." She laughed and we had a nice chat.

She may have been thinking of a hakama:

I've been wearing these things, for martial arts practice, for years (longer than I've been wearing the kilt, actually). They do have individual legs (most of the time), but it really does feel very much like I imagine a light weight, ankle length kilt might... though, in the case of the hakama, the pleats DO go in the front.
I have no idea. She told me what it was, but I don't remember the word.

Ya, it probably was an hakama... Racer96 gets his kilts longer than normal to have that look. Guess you could wear tabi instead of hose with that.
I think there are five to seven pleats in the front, and two in the back where the straps are. I think the pleats in the front ar also worn off center, so like three on one side and two on the other or something like that. Interesting garment...

LOL I've found myself lounging around the house like that, on several occasions! Tabi are so comfortable, it's hard to resist.

Sorry, I was looking up Racer96's name and came back to finnish editing my post after you quoted me. Guess you could throw in the sandals, what ever they're called, to.

Probably fine if you're using a kilt in place of a the hakama.

Here's a link to one of Racer96's threads where he talks about the hakama look with a kilt.

The answer to It's a nice skirt I use is The last one that called it a skirt got kilt.
When asked if I play the pipes, I answer I am the designated drinker for the band, someone's got to toast the band.

Other wise, I just ignore morons. I'm even thinking about putting that on a shirt.

Woah... Thanks for passing that along, Ted! I have to say: I don't think I could pull off the long kilt look, but Racer96 certainly can! Being that he's japanese, it really does give a hakama-like effect that's quite interesting.
