Actually, my wife had a conference at a very exclusive hotel (The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island) which requires that gentlemen come to dinner dressed (suit and tie or at least sport coat and tie.) For the past several meetings (I get to tag along and pay my own way) I have worn a kilt and jacket and tie for dinner, I get a lot of smiles and thumbs up. I also go to the historic Ft. Mackinac Island Fort (built by the English and taken by the US back when) and Pipe the flag down with the boy scout/girl scout troops assigned there that week. Very impressive usually and I think the folks enjoy the unique addition of the pipes playing Flowers of the Forest and Amazing Grace. Of course, I show up early (I always get permission of the Michigan State Park Authority) and pipe in the compound. This year one of the "post actors" brought out his rope tension drum and played along with me on several marches...very cool.

Too bad I didn't know about the power of the kilt when I was young enough to take advantage of it. (Wife wouldn't stand for it now, anyway.)
