kids will be kids, as I've had my runs with them while kilted, most of them positive, but when those few negatives do take place, somehow they annoy me more than if it were an adult doing it.
you know, I feel the impulse to correct these brats, and face to face has never a problem for me. most kids are not used to an adult coming and facing them so, at least in my experience, it is the best approach.
now, as for the hens in the elevator...i probably would have checked their floor and waited for them...but having a wife at your side would have calmed me just as it did you.
live and forget.

These little adolescents are insignificant pukes at best. It'd be gratifying to visit violence upon them, but not worth the trouble when a LEO shows up.
I suggest to the recently converted is to think a bit forward....
What do you plan to do when an adult male lifts your kilt? And he's bigger than you. It's more of a question of when than if.
Or better - how may you prevent the situation from occuring?
Being prepared now could save a quantity of grief later.

Queer remark
Actually, I believe that the best response to the statement "Queer" is "Not as odd as you think." Salacious, slanderous, and bigoted comments really are not worthy of response. Hopefully they will grow out of that phase and enter into a nuanced understanding of different cultures and beliefs. If not they really are a**holes. Good on you and your spouse, and continue wearing your kilt with pride. PiperGeorge out.

I've only had one experience close to this one: This past July, we were walking back to our motel room from a play, when a carload of teenage boys goes blowing past and the passenger leans almost his entire upper body out the window and gives a "Nice Skirt!"
Now, as far as some of the "insults" I've seen here on the board go, "Nice Skirt" really isn't too far up the totem pole. I just got more of a chuckle out of the fact that
A: the car was full of teenage boys, and
B: it didn't slow below 30 MPH as the comment was being made.
And so, it almost leaves you standing there wondering, for a minute, if you can say anything.
And then you realize it's 23:30, and it just ain't worth it at this point.

Had I been in your situation and been able to engage this charming pair in conversation I would have pointed at the wife and me and said:
"WOMAN and MAN" and then pointed at them and said: "Two guys - think about it"

He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,

Plenty of excellent responses on this thread. Considering the circumstances, I'd say you did the right thing by just letting it go.
Though it would have been fun to race down the stairs and be casually leaning on the wall when the elevator doors opened just to see their faces.
And is "Queer" really the best insult they could come up with? Sadly todays youth have lost the innovation and imagination that makes cursing and insulting so much fun.

Mark, You have to excuse some of us colonials. Most of us view Britain as historically our friend, rather than otherwise. Some of us are still fighting our Civil War from 150 years ago. We're a little slow sometimes.
