I speak MILSPEAK very well. I'm a former Army Ranger and was with 3d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, Georgia for many years.
Nice to meet another brother!

Well, my influences are very diverse.
I grew up listening to Classical music, was accepted to Juilliard, but didn't know a thing about grants or student loans, and joined the Army instead.
For Irish music, I draw on everyone from Tommy Makem to The pogues, to Dropkick Murphys and everywhere else for influences. I'm friends with the drummers for Gaelic Storm, Seven Nations, and other bands just from playing tons of Celtic festivals with them and we all have similar tastes.
I also play music for the TV/Movie industry. For THAT, I play everything from Funk to 9 inch nails, to country, etc. I LOVE listening to Funk and Gospel because that style of drumming is very complex and tough to play. The rewards are incredible.
Right now I'm listening to a band from N. Carolina called Sol Driven Train. Very laid back and groovy. they're not widely known, but they have some awesome songs on their MySpace. Go give 'em a listen!
Cheers!

For drumming, think ALBANNACH.
