I need a wide brimmed hat also. The one I have now I think I got from a local retail big box store. Nothing fancy. It does not look that great with the kilt. The Tilley looks like it would fit the bill. Thanks for the tip.

I've had this Eddie Bauer open weave sun helmet for over twenty years! (Perfect for summer kilted wear.) The truck the same amount of time. Talbot approves of both.

The Tilley is a great hat. I am also partial to the Filson canvas packer hat. Its almost indestructible.

You guys!! I've been a hat junkie since childhood. Seldom wear them, but do collect them. Figure that out.

For sun, pretty much grab whatever's handy and sorta works - though Monday, while checking in for the raft trip, I came very very close to buying a Tilly airflow that they had for sale in the raft trip store...very close. Hat cost as much as the trip so went with the trip...now I'm thinking about going back and getting it.

Lots of open vents are a must in the high desert sun. Do have a Filson that I love in cooler and wet weather.

Here is my Tilley. I have turned my house upside-down today, looking for it. I hope that I didn't leave it on Maui in January. I think it is the very-large-brim T2 version, although looking at this picture, the brim does not seem as big as when I first tried it on.

Why do I wear it pushed back? Watch "Murphy's Romance."

If kilts are just clothing, instead of a costume, what difference does it make what you wear. We don't agonise over what to wear with jeans!

I know I'm inviting scorn by asking this question, but here goes: Does anyone know of a source for hats in the style of those Tilleys for about half the price? I like the look and I'm craving sun protection more as I age, but I can't justify that price.
