I wear boots when the conditions warrant it. If kilted with boots then either boot socks that don't go so far up or kilt hose with flashes to hold 'em up or hose tops with flashes. In cold weather always keep the legs warm.

Depends on the boots, the hose, and how they look together. The boots I generally wear with a kilt are wellingtons (in the rain I hasten to add), so they go well above it all and are a look in and of themselves. 'Mr Gumby' I've been told- but surely that should be his cousin, MacGumby.

If I'm going casaul during the day time I wear mine down (I guess having thick calve muscles helps) I just think for me...being casaul during the day is better for the activities and the places I go.

Joe,
The awful truth is that there isn't a "right" way. One aspect of wearing clothes well is to be comfortable, both physically and emotionally, in what you are wearing. If you do not feel comfortable, you will not look comfortable. You've seen pictures of hose worn up and down; they can look good either way. Pull your socks up or push them down, then forget about them and get along with the business at hand. Don't let minor details get in the way of enjoying being kilted!
Have fun!

But if you do wear them up, be sure to wear some sort of garter. Otherwise you'll have one hose scrunched down, and another halfway there, inching it's way to meet it.

My answer would be dependent on the weather and the event. For a "dressy" event always up. For casual events in cold weather, they'd be up, but anything over 90 degrees, they'd be scrunched down.

Well if your boots are 10 inches high and your hose are 15-18 inches high pulled up, I'd say theres not a massive difference. Just go with whatever you like best.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Thanks,
Joe
Up with flashes.
