Balmoral, but that Rooskin looks very tempting.

Dude, seriously....
It's a hat- a hat that might have some squares of color on it, or not.
A hat is thing you put on your head to keep the rain, sun and bugs off...
Not a political diatribe.
And you live in Michigan.

Yep. Keeps me from freckling, too.
My cousin wants to know if you're married, and if you'll share your beer. I told her that A.) she's way too late and B.) No.

Oh, right. Flat caps...baseball caps... a bucket hat when I'm hiking, and reasonably often I just tie a bandana over my head.

Yeah...for the first time in my life I'd be more willing to part with the beer than with my female pardner. But now she's too late for that, too.

I wear the hat in my avatar for most occasions. It provides shade in the summer, protection from the rain and snow in the winter. It went all over Ireland and Scotland with me too.

For me it depends on the weather, not the kilt.
I wear a flat cap on cloudy days in winter.

To keep the rain off I wear an oiled cotton Australian outback hat.

For summer sun protection I now have a panama fedora made from straw with a 3" brim.

If I'm worried about how traditional I should look, I wear nothing on my head.

I'm aware it's a hat, that doesn't mean that there are no meanings to it. A kilt is just a garment to keep your bagpipe protected, too. And yet, they were illegal for many years in Scotland, for political reasons. Those who forget their history have no past... and no future. Meanings are real, and should not be ignored.
Thanks for the reminder, too, I was wondering where I live. Don't know what my current location has to do with anything, but you're the expert, so I guess I just won't post until I live in California.

I usually do not wear any hat, but when I do it is more then likely a homemade black tam which my mother knitted for me many years ago.
