    Well done laddie! :d

Think of the kilt as the foundation to everything else that you might wear with it-------get the kilt right and there is a good chance that everything else will not look too bad either.

Yep. A lifetime of wearing trousers and it feels goofy to have something riding that high. However, it looks spot-on. You'll get more and more comfortable with it as you wear it longer. Nicely done.

By golly, Jock may actually know what he's talking about.
Still don't think a deerstalker would work on my noggin, though.

My grandfather used to wear them. I'll see if I can unearth one of them and give it a shot. Challenge accepted!

It was very interesting to watch the progression of this thread. If you are shooting for a traditional look, Jock sure got you there, and I agree that the position of the kilt in your last picture looks fine . . . top to bottom. It may feel a little "high" at the top for a short while, but it really does look fine to my eye.

If I may add . . . . had I a head of hair like yours, I would never put a hat on it!

Welcome to the forum and may all your kilted time be happy.

    Much better!

You may also find that it looks better in proportion if you ditch the white shirt and replace it with a coloured one. Any colour should go fine with that tartan - it doesn't need to "match". But the contrast between the dark tartan and the stark white of your shirt will really accentuate the high waist. This can be mitigated, visually, by choosing a shirt colour that blends better with the kilt, and doesn't create such a sharp transition for the eye.

Also, with regards to tucking the shirt in, there's a trick for a sharp look. Once you've strapped the kilt on, reach underneath it and find the bottom hem of your shirt tails to tug them down. Do this all the way around, while holding the top of the kilt in place with the other hand.

    * This should not be done in public areas. Might seem a no-brainer, but I've seen it happen!
