Yeah Rocky came back and told me pretty much the same thing, but I'm an impulsive type so I went and ordered the first half decent looking one I saw online.

If nothing else this has rekindled an interest in leatherworking so I can add a personal touch to my wardrobe if I don't completely screw it up.

    Update

I finally got my sporran sling in from Craigie today. Bad marks for greatly delayed shipping without giving me a call or email to explain to me why it's going to be a couple weeks later than promised.

Basically I got two leather straps with snap closures to hang on the belt, integrated rings in the snaps for a chain to snap to, a jewel chain, and some cheapo snaps.

I messed around with the chain and ultimately discarded it.

The sporran now hangs directly from the straps, using only the cheapo snaps to attach the rings on the straps to the rings on my Buzz Kidder sporran.

First observation is I need a belt that cinches down tighter. The belt I'm using tightens well enough for just holding the kilt up by itself, but the weight of a loaded sporran is a different matter. If I move in a way that sucks my gut in like stretching, my kilt drops forcefully in the front from the weight. This was expected.

I think the sporran is hanging a bit high even without use of the chain. I don't see how this can be easily fixed and is probably more a shortcoming of the attachment points on the sporran being too high.

Hanging from the sling straps, the sporran does rock forward and back much more noticeably than it did with the full chain around my circumference. On the upside, when I sit down, no adjustments needed for modesty; the sporran naturally rests right where it needs to and covers everything up nicely.

No more pooching! This is the primary objective of course.

I just need to get a slightly smaller belt or punch another hole or two in the belt I have to see if that holds up better.

I don't think it was worth $28.50 (shipped) for what I got.

Hopefully its my turn now...ordered all leather sporran straps right after you. Will let you know how they come out. Using them for my Freelander Sporrans.

She said she made them herself from scratch...maybe you can help her make adjustments that would work.

Pictures: I'll have to get someone else to take a pic as my one year old daughter happened to my camera. ('nuff said there)

Yes, these are custom made. She had asked me to measure my belt width and it fits the belt like a glove. No worries there.

I do think a large part of the fault in how it hangs is the design of the sporran itself, which is no fault of hers. I think the attachment points are maybe too high, and the D-rings don't work gracefully with the leather they are attached to so it sort of binds up and gets ugly and sticks out there for everyone to see. I think the attachment points should be further back behind the sporran, down a bit lower, and should take into account the geometry of how the sporran will actually be suspended so the attachment points don't bind.

It's something I'm going to play around with. It's been about 17 years but I'm going to get back up to speed on working with leather, try making some of my own sporrans, and see if I can't come up with a better way to hang it on a full figured man.

I have a sling on order but i wasn't going to use it to wear my sporran in front but to wear it on my left hip for casual wear. Will see how that goes.

Magnus, my leather sporran strap went kaput today. (the grommet came out) Then it occurred to me that I had a homemade strap which substituted just fine. You get some of that heavy duty nylon webbing at the sports shop. Buy some suitable Fastex fasteners. You can put all this together without grommets or needle and thread. The black webbing looks o-k. is unobtrusive and might even satisfy as a permanent strap. - Alan
