I'm currently shopping for my first sporran - quite a task! Maybe though I'm overcomplicating things.
I sell the loops, too -- and the sporrans, and everything else Buzz Kidder makes. Buzz's sporrans come with a plain chain. You can upgrade to a chain strap or a sporran belt-strap (all-leather) or buy the loops and suspend the sporran directly from a belt. This method is especially good for guys with a bit of 'belly' because it eliminates the 'pooching' effect (when the sporran chain slips under the tummy). It's also good for anyone that likes to move the sporran to the side frequently, because you won't have the buckle end of a chain strap ending up on your other side.

I was looking at Freelander, and had I not spent so much money already I think I'd go for one hands down. I still might, I like them a lot, I'm just playing the money/investment game. If more money now for a better product will serve me better then I'll go for it. But if the product isn't so much better and I'd be happy, with and served well by, a cheaper product then I'm not 'rolling around' enough to justify all the extra expense.
The Kidder does sound like a sound sporran but I'm just not sure I like the style as much as others.
The Knotwork is a bit of an unkown quantity since I like the style somewhat and the price with strap is a good deal, but will I be disappointed with the product - too small or whatever?
Whilst I'm loving the kilts I have and can see myself getting more, I'm not an indiscriminate spender and wont be loading up on a collection of sporrans and shirts and all the other stuff. One sporran will be enough for me for a while I think.
Incidentally, and I know this breaks with tradition, but I found that since I didn't have a sporran but wanted to wear my new traditional and needed both the function and style of having something with my kilt, I found that I quite liked adding one of the detachable pockets from my UK Survival to my belt, wearing it on the hip.

I think both Freelander and Buzz Kidder sporrans are great. And both made by great guys, as well. Both hold a lot, so no worries about being too small. (They have different styles with different capacities, but all are generous as sporrans go.) I'm now carrying the BK's, so if you want one, let me know! The BK Country Sporran can be dressed up with a nice chain strap and will work as a semi-formal sporran, as well as making a great day sporran. You can see this style on my husband Alan in my X Marks gallery.

True, you can't slide it past the buckle, but it's easy to reposition it and then you have no chain strap buckle on the other side.

Shameless plug: I accept PayPal as well as credit cards. And I have all Buzz's products.

Buzz actually ONLY sells wholesale. When you buy from 'his' web site, you're actually buying from a member of his family who buys from him at wholesale.

I've looked at BK sporrans but I actually wasn't too keen on the style. I don't know why, they just looked a bit 'bulky'.
Maybe I shouldn't be so fussy. I've been using a UK pocket for a sporran so far (see my gallery) and I actually like the idea of having something on my hip, and posted some links on another thread with pocket pouches that can be worn thus.
I still haven't quite made my mind up, but if I bought one right now it would probably be a Freelander, they seem to be the best of the bunch style/size/workmanship etc.

Cyndi,
When will your web store be up and running? I would be interested in seeing what yopu carry.

I'm doing it by myself, and it's very time-consuming and tedious, and I am very busy with other things, so I'm horribly slow with it! I can't tell you a time-frame, other than to say sometime this year! I have in stock or have sources for most things you will see in the typical Scottish goods shop, so if there's something you're looking for, let me know!
Thanks for your interest!
