You might possibly be stretching the edges of the pleats when sewing them, either pulling the fabric to keep it straight under the foot or using a thread that is fairly thick and actually stretching the fabric with the extra bulk.
The horisontal creases below the belt mean the fabric is trying to lift up above the hip level - it is a 'fitting fault' which might require a shallow curve at the waist of the kilt which when fitted into the waistband will lift the crease out.
However - it might be worth trying two small darts in the front apron first - although that is a horisontal alteration it can correct the creasing because it releases the tension in the material.
I find that there is sometimes a lot to be gained by tacking or using safety pins at the waist and then fitting the kilt so as to get the pleats to lie right - even if it means having the top edge uneven in order to twist the pleats into place or lift/lower the hem.
With some fabrics the top edge can be sewn exactly level and all is fine, others require a lot of tweeking to look right.

I'm interested on learning how to do the two-tone thing. Extremely interesting.
And... where did you find the desert camo material? I need to snag a good 18 yards of the stuff.

I was at the local Wal Mart today looking for some fabric to make a X-Kilt and noticed they had the Desert Camo. I can't remember exactly but it was around $4.00 a yard.

Great job.
That pic was taken without the velcro so it has actually sagged to there. I haven't checked it with the Velcro in place but if it still hangs as such I plan to trim and re hem the aprons.

maybe a couple more pleats would make it look better.
also soak it in fabric softener to take out the stiffness, I did this with my camo utikilit, looks much better.
put me down as customer number 1 when you return.

Hit me up when you get back, depending on how my cash flow is I might order one.

Thanks everyone for all the support. I got my orders today acutually so I will be doing no more updating for awhile. I do however plan to keep checking in as time permits and will be trying out a few test orders at a very deep discount to make sure that everyone likes the product before I make it official that I am selling them. Thank you all again and I hope to send you at least one kilted picture from Iraq. I will be taking the five color desert with me only because I can't find any ACU material. If I can find some over there I will be hand sewing an ACU kilt in my free time and trying to do at least one patrol or mission in it, chain of command willing of course. I hope you all are doing well and that I will be talking to you soon.
